Regulus (α Leonis) is the brightest star in the constellation Leo. It is 79 light-years (ly) away and has an apparent magnitude of 1.36 mag.
As a star close to the ecliptic, Regulus is quite often covered by the moon and very rarely by the planets Mercury and Venus. It also forms the Spring Triangle with the stars Arcturus and Spica.
