1 3-letter abbreviation based on the genitive form of the constellation name.
2 Position (half sphere) of the constellation within the celestial sphere. N stands for the northern hemisphere and S for the southern hemisphere. Constellations marked with N S or S N are located fairly centrally on the celestial equator; with most of them on the first-named hemisphere. At N s and S n only a very small part of the constellation area is located on the hemisphere designated by the lower case letter.
3 Visibility refers to the area on Earth in latitude from which the constellation can be fully observed (i. e. “deep at night alone on the seas with no light on board and no clouds or fog on the horizon”).
