Deneb (α Cygni) is the brightest star in the constellation Cygnus. It is about 1400 light-years (ly) away and has an apparent magnitude of 1.25 mag.
Deneb ranks 19th on the list of the brightest stars in the night sky and together with Eta Carinae they form the brightest known stars in our Milky Way in visible light.
If Deneb were the same distance from Earth as Vega (25 light-years), it would shine nearly as brightly as the crescent Moon.
Together with Vega and Altair, Deneb forms the Summer Triangle.
