β Arae is the brightest star in the constellation Ara with an apparent magnitude of 2.85 mag. It is located at a distance of about 650 light years (ly).

The star has a very large extent with about 90 solar radii. If it would be in our solar system, it would fill almost half the distance between the earth and the sun.
