Naos (ζ Puppis) is the brightest star in the constellation Puppis. It is about 1100 light-years (ly) away and has an apparent magnitude of 2.21 mag.
Due to the division of the former constellation Argo Navis into the constellations Puppis, Carina and Vela, these have a common “set” of Bayer designations and Naos therefore does not have alpha, but zeta as a Greek letter.
The brightest star Alpha of Argo Navis is Canopus in the constellation Carina.
