α Mensae is the brightest star in the constellation Mensa with an apparent magnitude of 5.09 mag. Nevertheless, it is so faint that it nearly cannot be seen with the naked eye. According to evaluations of the measurement results of the Gaia space probe published in December 2020, it is 33.3 light years (ly) away from Earth.
